DARPANet

DARPANet: Forløberen for Internettet. Udviklet af det Amerikanske Forsvarsministeriums kontor for avanceret forskning, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). DARPANet blev udviklet som et svar på den kolde krigs fare for atomkrig, der ville kunne slå hele den militære kommunikations infrastruktur ud. DARPANettets, og dermed Internettets, styrke er den decentrale og fleksible opbygning, baseret på routing og packets, der gør at nettet hurtigt kan omkonfigureres.
